After Apple announced the delay for their wireless earpods, the Airpods, the reason given was that the airpods were not ready. This sounds like a reasonable enough statement to make except that it’s not the real reason.
A source close to the matter has said that pressure was put on Apple to delay launch because it would coincide with the Beat’s advertising campaign for wireless headphones. The price of the Apple Airpods undercuts the Beats products and it was felt that it would be detrimental to the Beats Advertising Campaign and a delay of the release of the Airpods would improve the sales at Beats.
So there we have it, the cheaper Apple branded product is delayed to promote one of Apple’s purchased brands chances of getting sales. Nothing like Brand Nepotism.
