Tech Was The Week That Was W/E 11/19/2016

Twitter Rolls out Trolling Measures…

As reported by Tech news website THEREGISTER.CO.UK Twitter is in the process of following out anti-troll measures.  Question is, considering their blatant biases when it comes to dealing with reports and allowing their staff to bias action based on their personal Political and Socio-economic leanings we have to take this with a pinch of salt and quite possibly will see a one sided approach to dealing with trolls and only taking down conservative trolls.  This will not be dealing with the situation it will be condoning trolling by one side while allowing others to continue.  I personally know of at least two rampant trolls that are progressive liberals who have been reported many times both by other liberals and by conservatives but have never been taken down whom dox and run hate campaigns on twitter.  What hope is there when blatant trolls were getting away with trolling simply because they were ‘progressives’?  We’ll wait and see, meanwhile I think I’ll stick with using the Minds social network instead which is far more balanced and everyone seems to get alone for the better part.

Both Facebook, Google & Twitter announce plans to banish fake news advertising…

Yes, we’ve heard this before, it’s really the fault of much of the fake news for the clusterfuck of misinformation and confusion called the Presidential election and all three companies allowed this to take place adding confusion.  Heck they allowed out and out hate to be blasted from both sides of the political spectrum.  It really put many off voting at all.  We can believe it when it actually happens but as of this afternoon all three were still advertising with blatantly fake news that makes The Onion News seem real.

We have to be honest Google are at the center of most of the advertising that shows articles that are total bullshit and designed to suck idiots in and view even more advertising with fake facts and total lies and bullshittery.

Google wants to suck up all the old photographs we always prayed would be lost forever…

According to Wired Google have decided that we should have a way to streamline  and improve the quality of the prints and get them online.  Meanwhile most of us would rather Google didn’t create a Photoscan app and let those pictures vanish forever along with the embarrassment that we have endured along with them.

 Apple’s book, a dedication to Steve Jobs…

So many wrote about this calling it their latest product, it’s not really a product but a book showing their design history with all their products.  It’s been treated like a memorial to Steve Jobs but it is really as much a tribute to Apple’s engineering and product design even thought Steve Jobs brought much of the products to life with a heavy influence from him.  Either way if you are willing to part with cold hard cash and a lot of it and this floats your boat then go ahead and buy it,  I’m sure that you will find where to buy from one of those outlets that chose to go into detail.

Road Traffic Deaths up by 50% and Smartphones and App’s are being blamed…

According to the New York Times deaths from Road Traffic Accidents have jumped by 50% and it’s the use of app’s that is causing.  Not GPS style apps but social media style apps such as messaging etc that are at the center because people just can’t wait.  Let’s be honest, regardless of how harsh the laws are for texting and driving or even talking on the phone while driving we all see far more than we should of people that are holding their phones up to their ears or even holding it like a slice of freaking toast.  We’ve all even seen the idiots staring at the phone.  I remember driving behind one that was engrossed in texting and driving that he or she almost crashed head on into oncoming traffic and then sped away at far in excess of the speed limit in embarrassment.  Until every state makes a determined focus and takes a hard line on talking and texting etc while driving we will continue to see increases in accidents caused by people that are complacent to the risks involved in these acts.

Pinterest rolls out auto playing video…

according to Recode that kind of social network, photo sharing/grouping, website Pinterest is following out the ibiqutous auto-playing video and we all know what it really means.  On Mobile it means more data usage, and on all platforms it means a terrible experience with advertising that is slipped in as video and is intrusive as hell to your experience driving you away from using the service.  I’ve never taken much interest in Pinterest, it’s just not something I cared about but for some it means a nuisance is on its way to ruin their experience.

Nintendo’s retro gaming console is a success…

Trouble is you are going to struggle to buy one, they are in short supply, kind of the story of Nintendo’s hardware history, and this little gaming machine will only be available for minutes if not seconds each day on Walmart’s website while it has sold out on other online outlets.  Multiple news outlets reported this and it’s just an interesting little piece but not worthy of getting a link to any of them.

Snapchat races for IPO before tech bubble bursts…

According to the BBC NEWS Snapchat has filed for it’s IPO, is this a race by its founders to get it’s Initial Public Offering out of the way in case, as the economy races towards a deeper recession (it really has never come out of recession), the tech bubble collapses.

Personally I suspect that people wil be wary of Snapchat, look at all the other similar techs and look at Twitter, Twitter is struggling and people are wary of these companies now and their ability to monetize their product.

Not quite Tech but using wood to fly passenger jets…

According to Ars Technica Alaska Airlines test flew a passenger jet using Alcohol made by fermenting wood waste from Seattle to Washington D.C.

Now if we can find enough wood waste and produce enough alternative jet fuel then we might actually reduce our national dependence on jet fuel.

I still keep picturing men stoking a furnace in the cockpit of the aircraft.

Twitter shows more bias in their treatment of abuse cases…

While the only evidence was supplied via social media there is evidence growing that Twitter’s showing bias when they make decisions on cases of abuse and also on the removal of those that are claimed to be abusers.   They are targeting the so-called “Alt-Right” while refusing to remove the “Regressive-Left” that have so far been allowed to continue harassing and abusing others.  Whether Twitter will balance their bias remains to be seen.

Is Apple Throttling the Verizon version of the iPhone 7?

According to Mac Rumors Apple’s deliberately throttling the Verizon Version of the iPhone 7, presumably so that data transfers are not faster on Verizon than AT&T.  We all know how these different companies have tantrums.

Let’s face it all these companies have spotty records when it comes to data.  Yesterday I was over in Orange County and struggled to get data and it was at a time when I needed it.  I guess AT&T aren’t good there.

As to this rumor, true or not it’s not a big deal for most and most probably wouldn’t notice or give a toss about it except for whining freaking Journalists who again, claim they are power users when they are really power assholes.

Apple Touch Disease on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus has been acknowledged…

According to various outlets, CNN included, Apple are preparing a repair program for these  devices that have suffered an issue with the touch screen and various issues involving the screens.   I expected them to eventually address it when it started to show as a serious issue among the device and since it’s not exactly an ancient model it is nice to see them work to address this hardware failure.

Innocent customers of Google are being caught in the crossfire aimed at Scalpers…

Google had totally failed to set into place checked to verify whether a person is genuine or not when they purchase a Google Pixel and if a genuine person resells their device because they no longer desire it or just plain don’t like it or as many have described it “Overpriced piece of Crap” (Professor Jeff Jarvis).  This let to at least 200 people so far having their accounts deleted or locked by Google and being deprived access to their documents, their photo’s, their Apps and their Android Life.  How pitiful it can be to the target of hate from the maker of the OS that you love.  Personally I’d dump them and go with iOS just to take a stand against this type of abuse.

Yes, Apple is exploring USA production of their devices…

Contrary to those that try and disclaim this, while Pegatron flat out refused to look at the cost of production in the USA, FoxConn have and they are looking at the iPhone cost and estimate it may cost an extra $40-$50 but, and this is a big but, this is based on their currently throw a gazillion employee’s at the production process rather than investing in more automated production.  Expect Apple to be actively looking at the whole production process for their devices and pushing towards far more automation, could they plan on their own factories and stop using a contractor?  Possibly.

Initial report here at CNBC, don’t expect everyone to get it spot on correct, Apple will look at the other products for USA production first that are not as high sales.

With that I will bade you farewell for this week, It’s not complete and It’s kind of cut short but we can’t always include everything we would like to.  Though we, as always will post regularly during the week with more detailed posts and as always take what we say with a pinch of salt, just as we take the sources we use with a pinch of salt.
